Experimental Life Drawing

Today's life drawing session offered something a little different to what I usually expect. Each life model tends to present their own preferred poses. This life model preferred quick sitting and crouching poses. I find that sometimes it is easier to block in a charcoal base before I add lines. The quick charcoal strokes offer a confident expressive mark making which I quite like.

Morning session with Pat

Hello again all, another life drawing for you. This was done with a graphite stick and it was a 10 minute pose. Today wasn't a very productive session as I only really started to get into my drawing by the end. This was the last one I did, the others weren't worth uploading. The life model didn't really give me anything to work with, mostly boring and static, so I focused on the face and the back.

Evening class with Gary

I decided before the class started that I wanted to experiment a bit and try to use charcoal in a different way than i usually do. I added chinagraph over the top for the line work and dark texture. I'm pleased with how some of them came out, but the others that aren't so good can tell me what works and what doesn't. I finished up using a graphite stick just to practice line quality.

Layout Training

As I said in a previous post I would like to gain more experience within the layout field as it might be something I might like to pursue. I haven't done much layout as such but the next couple of weeks I will be doing a lot more. This is the first piece of many. The architecture students allowed us to borrow their architectural models for the day. After multiple thumbnails, this was the view I chose.

Life Drawing Variety

The assessment week is finally over and now I am determined to up my game. I have received feedback for my work and now i know what i need to work on to improve. I won't be slacking that much anymore. The first term i was adjusting to the course and now i am settled i can fully engage.

I haven't posted anything in a while so I guess now is as good a time as any. This is just an update on life drawing. I am focusing on life drawing at moment so you'll be seeing a lot more of it. I hope to add a little variety later on, including observation drawings and layout. Also this is also my first written post! I'm starting to enjoy this. Expect more regular posts from now on.
